Octoberfest

Grassy Freewill Baptist’s Sunday School is hosting the annual Octoberfest, Saturday, Oct. 9 from noon until 4pm.

There will be activities for everyone of all ages. Greene and Ruby Adkins will be singing, the Johns Creek DAV will be here for our flag ceremony, and we will be remembering local educator Dolly Brown and her contribution to our community.

The theme of this year’s Octoberfest will be “Under God’s Big Top.” Leo the Lion and Connie Crocodile are anxious to visit and meet all the boys and girls (especially those from Vacation Bible School). There will also be group games such as musical chairs and the limbo for EVERYONE to participate in.

We hope to see you at Octoberfest. All the activities, food and fun are FREE for everyone to enjoy. Come and bring a friend!

Calling All Corpses

By: Brad Williamson, pastor

Once again, it’s time for revival and I have been asked and given the honor to write this message to the community. Romans 3:13-16 reads “their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they have spread lies...whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways.”

Sin does to a life what cancer does to our bodies. It kills without proper treatment. In the beginning you may fell strong and well, but the end result of this disease is death. I’m glad to report, however, that there is a cure for the sin in your life. That cure is the blood of Jesus our risen Savior.

As long as sin remains in your life, you are the same as a dead person in the sight of God. The Bible says that Jesus came to this earth to give us life. In other words, He came to “CALL ALL CORPSES.”

You can try to clean yourself up, change your habits, and start doing good things, but until you confess JESUS, you, like many others, are going to remain dead and end up in Hell.

So, its time for revival... time for the corpses to heed the call of the life giver... and time for our children to hear of true love. So, please come Sunday, October 17 at 6:00 and all that week to hear what God has to say to us. Let the resurrection of the corpses begin!!

            God Bless You!

Sunday School

By: Larry Goff

When most people hear the words “Sunday School,” they think that its for children only. You know–time to get the kids ready and just as soon as the kids are ready and gone, then time for the parents to get ready so they won’t be too late for church. Well, at least get there before the preacher starts.

What is Sunday School? It’s a time for Bible study, but you say “I know it’s not for me because I hear all I need to hear from the preacher.” However, God’s word says “study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). We need to know what God has to say, not man’s opinion. In Psalms 119:105, God says through David’s writing “thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

I know that none of us would attempt to go outside in the dark without a light of some sort. We never know what we might run into. God doesn’t want us to go out into the world without HIS light (word) because He knows what is out there waiting for us. He also says that there are false teachers, false preachers, and Satan waiting for us to slip up. We need God’s protection and help. If you don’t know God’s word or don’t know Jesus as your personal savior, how can you hope to make it through this world?

Ephesians 6:11 says “put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” If you were a soldier, you wouldn’t go into battle without being dressed accordingly. Well, God wants us to be equipped also, and we get equipped through God’s word. So you see, we (adults) need to know God’s word that we may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. God didn’t say fight the devil, just stand and he will take care of the battle.

The Bible says that in the last days that many will turn away from God’s truth and get preachers that will tell them things that will tickle their ears, like how good they are instead of the fact that they are living in sin, need to repent, and get back to God.We need God’s word now more than ever as we are truly in the last days before Jesus returns in the clouds to take the Christians home.

May this encourage you to study God’s word and get active in a Bible beliving and teaching church and Sunday school. May God keep you and bless you richly and may you trust him for the keeping of your soul.

Sunday School Teacher Appreciation

We at the Grassy Freewill Baptist Church, are very proud of our accomplishments in our Sunday School Program in the last few years. We are blessed with many brothers and sisters that put their whole heart in their work for the Lord and for our kids.

This month, I would like to tell you about one of our teachers who helps in the Boys class ages 9 and up. Brother Ronnie Webb has been a big asset to our Sunday School for that past year. He is always there to give a helping hand to anyone or anything that needs to be done. He also helps get our kids to Sunday School by driving the bus. Brother Ronnie is very dedicated to the Grassy Sunday School and the Grassy Church. It’s people like Brother Ronnie that makes our Sunday School such a success.

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you out to Sunday School at Grassy. There are many fun things to do, but most importantly, you will learn about Jesus. Sunday School starts at 9:45. If you need transportation to the church call Brother Emery Slone at 432-2948.
