Vacation Bible School 2004

“Under God’s Big Top”

Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages–it’s time for Vacation Bible School once again. And this time, Grassy is doing it “circus-style!” Mark your calendars for June 21-25 and let the fun begin!

This year, Grassy Freewill Baptist is having classes for all age groups–2 years old to adult. Some classes include “The World’s Tallest Man” (David and Goliath) and “The Great Escape Artists” (Paul and Silas in jail), just to name a few. You will also be introduced to a VERY ferocious mascot for the week and have the opportunity to create some great crafts. Snacks will also be provided nightly.

The “circus” will begin each night at 6:00 pm. There will also be a special program presented for the parents on Friday, June 25. Don’t miss this three-ring adventure–UNDER GOD’S BIG TOP!!

Spaghetti Dinner a Success!

The ladies’ auxiliary had a very successful dinner to raise money for “Crusade in the Mountains” and the auxiliary. The turnout was wonderful. The ladies got a blessing from preparing the food and fellowshipping with one another. We received many positive comments about the dinner and were even asked to sponsor another one soon. Thanks to everyone who helped with the dinner and to everyone who purchased one.

  Church Worker Spotlight

The Grassy church is very fortunate to have a couple like Andy and Evelyn Adams as members and helpers. Sister Evelyn assists in Sunday School class and “Children’s Church” and actively participates in the ladies’ auxiliary. Brother Andy has driven the bus for Vacation Bible school and other events. He also helps with many work projects at church. Thank you, Andy & Evelyn, for all the work you both do for the church and for God.

Rural Education

Most of the older generation remember the one room schools that dotted Raccoon many years ago. We had the Head of Coon, Goff, Frozen Creek, and Grassy schools. The teachers at these schools were poorly paid and had few teaching materials. They used yardsticks for pointers, and all assignments were put on the “blackboard.” The Frozen Creek School was one of the last to consolidate with Johns Creek around 1966.

We would like to pay tribute to the one-room schools and their teachers at the 2004 Octoberfest. If you have a favorite memory of your school days or teachers, we would like to hear from you.

THE ASSIGNMENT:

Write a letter or personal story about your favorite memory concerning school. Bring the letter or story to Grassy when you come to church OR mail it to:

More Workers for the Lord

Grassy Freewill Baptist Church has been blessed with additional workers in several areas. The church recently licensed two men to preach God’s Word. Lester Tibbs was licensed March 27, 2004, and Jerry Michael Coleman was licensed April 24, 2004. We pray that God will bless them for many years in this calling.

The church also ordained Brother Keith Paul Blackburn as its newest deacon and his wife Debbie Blackburn as deaconess on April 25, 2004.

The Grassy Sunday School has added another teacher to its staff. Sandra Bartley will now be working with the teen girls.

We thank God for everyone who is willing to answer God’s call to serve His church.
