I remember when I was small my mom and dad worked hard to feed and clothe all of us. Mom would stay up late at night and make my sisters and others dolls out of clothes pins. She would make a dress and cap for each doll and we would find it in our stocking along with candy and fruit on Christmas morning.
When I was ten years old and my brother was eight, we started going to Sunday School in Pikeville. We had to walk each way and one Christmas they gave me my first store bought doll. It was snowing when we started home and I put the doll under my coat to protect it. That was a good Christmas but...
The most precious Christmas was the first Christmas after Jesus saved me Nov 30, 1946. I knew then the real meaning of Christmas. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, poor but rich, a small baby in a manger, but the greatest man of all. That is a Christmas I will never forget. Merry Christmas to you Jesus, and thank you for saving my soul. Happy Birthday!
CHRISTMAS PLAY
“Somebody Stole Baby Jesus”
Grassy Freewill Baptist’s Christmas play this year is “Somebody Stole Baby Jesus.” The director of the Christmas play is Inez Varney.
The play is not only about the birth of Jesus, but it also opens our eyes to common problems today including jealousy, coveting, stealing, etc. Many of the kids who attend our Sunday school and youth group, as well as some adult members of the church, will be performing in the Christmas play.
The Christmas play will be held on Dec. 21 at 6 pm. Please come and share in the joy of the birth of our Savior this holiday!
What Christmas Means to Me
By: Maggie Harris
When I was a little girl, one of eleven children, we didn’t have money to buy presents and gifts like people do now. So, we had to make our own decorations for the evergreen tree we would cut down. We would pop popcorn and string it up and put it around the tree. We would also make angels and stars, and Mom would knit sweaters, caps, gloves, and socks for our gifts. She would buy all kinds of fruit and candy. Then we would hang our stockings up for Santa to fill. The next morning our socks would be filled. She would bake cakes and put cinnamon, berries and make the best fruit salad. We always had plenty to eat. I looked forward to Christmas.
But now since I’ve grown up and accepted Jesus in my heart, I want to worship Him. Now when I give gifts, it is in remembrance of Him. For this is the reason for the season. Remember His coming to save us.
Nursing Home Ministry
About three years ago, Pam Coleman had a desire to serve in some capacity at our local nursing home. Now, several ladies and Pam visit the Pikeville Health Care Center monthly.
The residents participate in craft activities, singing, and snacks. The ladies from Grassy then do visitation throughout the facility.
We invite anyone interested in this ministy to contact Pam at 433-0511. You will get a blessing as you see the smiles on the residents’ faces.
